ASHTANGA WEEK with ADAM KEEN

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic method of sequenced postures linked with breath and concentration techniques, popularized in modern times by Shri K. Pattabhi Jois. Throughout the practice, we work on linking every movement with the breath aiming to align opposing forces.

Adam Keen, has been practicing Ashtanga yoga for almost 20 years and teaching for the last 15, based in London but also internationally. He was fortunate enough to study directly with Pattabhi Jois and has continued his studies with Sharath Jois, obtaining Level 2 Authorization as well as completing the Advanced A sequence in Mysore.

Adam will be joining Yoga Souk from Feb 23rd – March 1st, to teach us various techniques we can use in our daily Ashtanga Practice.

Saturday, 23rd February 

10:00 AM – 12:00PM Led Primary Class

A traditional counted primary series class, but, with unique ‘tips and tricks’ thrown in. Adam’s led class has been developed over the last 20 years resulting in a dynamic and energizing practice for all.
4:30 – 6:30PM Technique Workshop: Jump through & Jump back
Everyone wants to learn the jump through & jump back. We will all have a go at this together, breaking it down specifically and carefully, so it is absolutely clear exactly what needs to be done in stages. Extra drills and exercises will also be given to get you there quicker, for those struggling with patience.

Sunday, 24th February

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Led Primary Class with intro to Intermediate Series
A led primary series class with the added bonus of an introduction to the extremely exhilarating world of intermediate series. This will remain accessible to all and will contain some helpful backbends for every ability. Suggested modifications will be shown so everyone can work on something.
4:30 – 6:30PM Technique Workshop: Backbends 
Finally make friends and even look forward to back bending, this posture can be pain free, deeply liberating and even enjoyable.  In this session there will be clear and profoundly effective information to make this experience possible for everyone.
6:30 – 7:00PM Closing Discussion and Q&A
A chance to hear Adam speak about the relationship of yoga practice to the practicalities of everyday life and also pick his brains about any concerns or confusion you have. Adam has a background in philosophy but also a ‘keen’ sense of humor, making this a unique, fun, and thoughtful, ending to the weekend.

 

MYSORE PROGRAM

*Open for Beginners to Ashtanga Yoga

If you are looking to deepen your practice or experiment what you have learned from the weekend workshop, Adam will be with us for one full week of Mysore Style Practice.

Mysore Style, is the traditional method of learning Ashtanga Yoga. Students are instructed on an individual basis to learn and maintain practicing the transitional sequence of Ashtanga over time with hands on adjustments, personalized guidance from the teacher and attention to special needs. This is a great way to establish a self-practice.
