Iyengar Yoga with Lina Shuman
What is Iyengar yoga? Iyengar yoga is a style of Hatha yoga named after its founder BKS Iyengar. It differs from other styles of yoga in its unique aspect of emphasis on precision and alignment in performing the asanas (postures).
Quality of movement is prioritized over quantity. Specific teaching points awaken the body’s intelligence: you learn to move with ease in your body while working within your limitations. The use of props is incorporated when needed to make the posture accessible for everyone and safe to perform.
During the 4 weeks:
Students will gain knowledge & awareness of details & precision in each asana to create correct alignment throughout the body and use this knowledge in all daily activities and body movements. This 4 week program is for students who have been practicing yoga asanas and wish to deepen their practice by understanding correct body alignment and reintegrate a vinyasa flow class; and also for those who don’t wish to follow a vinyasa practice and prefer to practice each asana slowly with precision.
About Lina: teacher, student, began her journey into yoga over 20 years ago out of her mother’s passion about yoga. Student & teacher of Iyengar & Satyananda yoga traditions, she’s been giving classes for over a decade, running her own yoga studio, organizing yoga retreats and workshops locally & internationally.
By combining the Eastern philosophies of yoga and meditation with our very active Western lifestyle, and through her own personal experiences, she can relate to students, lovingly sharing with them and giving them the teachings of yoga, while seeing them harvest the transforming effects on their bodies and minds.
Her classes are simple with detailed emphasis on proper body alignment in asana practices on one side, to safely gain physical flexibility and strength, reduce pain, and age gracefully. And on the other side restoring the mind to simplicity and peace with practices such as pranayama, yoga nidra and meditation.
